Named Willow, this ‘canine carer’ is a rescue dog and brings a whole new meaning to cosy companionship. Cared for by one of Fledge’s senior managers, Willow is a 4-month-old Shihpoo whose previous owner had to rehome her due to poor health. Nerissa and Tasha decided to add Willow to the team after years of residents asking them if they could have pets!

‘Some of our service users have mental health or emotional problems, or learning needs,’ explained Nerissa Dean, Fledge’s Operations Manager. ‘and it is well understood that Interacting with a pet such as Willow can be calming and provide a therapeutic focus for many. Willow is also a wonderful counterbalance for our staff who face the many stresses of providing intensive front-line care and support to the often-vulnerable homeless young adults who are referred to us. Willow is taking it all in her stride and is certainly enjoying the love and care she’s receiving from Fledge staff and service users. She is likely to be a key member of our team for many years to come!’
