Prayer Letter #1

November 2016

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” Phil 4 v 6

Thank you for praying with us and for us.

It has been an exciting year for us at Fledge. It has been wonderful to welcome residents into the house and to train mentors to stand with them. It has also been quite scary too, but knowing that God has been leading us makes us bold. We can look back in amazement and thanksgiving when we see how He has led us to the point we are now, and look forward with excitement and awe as we wait to see to what He will do in the future.

We are very aware that we can acheive nothing in our own strength, and we want to thank you for commiting to pray with us and for us in this very necessary work. To God be the glory.

Residents
At the moment we have four residents in the house and are negotiating to fill the last bed. Our aim is to help them towards independence, employment and housing. Each of the girls have regular meetings with the support workers to set goals and to monitor their progress. Some of them come from difficult situations and have a lot of learning to do!
  • That our newest residents will settle in well and quickly adapt to life in the house
  • Pray that the girls will grow increasingly independent and that their confidence would grow
  • Pray for their mentors, that they would be wise and able to listen well.
Staff
It can be very stressful dealing with five needy people who find it difficult to make their own decisions and who want your attention day and night. It is a tricky balance between helping the residents and knowing when to step back.
  • For Nerissa and Natasha as they work with the residents on a daily basis. Pray for wisdom and discernment as they deal with vulnerable and needy people.
  • Pray for safety for the Support Workers and protection for their hearts and minds. We also need another Support Worker in the house. Pray that the right person will apply for the position.
  • We are in need of more Trustees to lighten the load and widen our effectiveness. We are particularly needing people who have experience and knowledge of fundraising and PR.
Funding
  • Funding is vital for the work that we do. Thank God for those individuals and churches who give regularly, and pray that more people will be raised up to support us.
  • We are presently looking to recruit more staff, especially another Support Worker. Pray that the money would become available for us to appoint someone soon.
  • Nerissa is also applying for various grants. Please pray that these applications will be successful.
  • We still need to raise £2,150 for a mentor co-ordinator. Pray that the necessary funding will be made available to us.
Future
We are looking to begin a social enterprise which will not only provide us with funding, but may also give the residents skills and experience that would be useful  for future employment.  Please pray for guidance as we consider options and ways of taking the next step.
Ways you can support Fledge:

Regular Giving

Fledge needs around £85,000 a year to run. The first few years, until we establish a good track record, are the hardest to raise.

40 people giving £25 a month would ensure the future of our Project Manager for 6 months.

6 churches donating £1,000 would cover the training and support of our mentors for a year

£11 provides one night's accomodation

Volunteer

Volunteers receive full training and expenses and have the opportunity to make a real difference to the life of a young person. We need Mentors, Fund-raisers, Trustees, Advocates, and Supported Lodgings Hosts.
