Newsletter #2

July 2016

Welcome to our newsletter!

It has been a very busy few months for Fledge. The completion of the house has been celebrated with many people joining us for the official launch.  We have successfully employed a Lead Support Worker who is settling in well.  3 young people moved in with us and we are looking to welcome our 4th resident in the next couple of weeks. We have successfully completed our first 6 week mentoring course that 6 people attended.

We urgently need your help
If you have a couple of hours a month to spare and can bake a cake, hold a tea party or wear our logo at a charity stall, then we would love to hear from you. We are also looking for people with a background in housing, plus people with skills in IT, PR, fund-raising or admin.

If you know anyone with time to give or could support us practically yourself, please do pas son the message and get in touch.

Role descriptions of the specific jobs can be provided on request

Please contact Nerissa on Nerissa@fledge.org.uk or Tracey on chair@fledge.org.uk
Lead Support Worker Update

I am excited to have recently started working for Fledge as the Lead Support Worker (currently the only support worker!) I have a background in children and youth work, most recently with those who are Looked After and Care Leavers. I’m looking forward to applying the skills and experience I have to the role at Fledge as well as learning new ones and to seeing this exciting project develop over the coming months.

We are very pleased to have our first three residents settled into the Fledge house. As well as Fledge providing them with a safe place to live and support as they journey towards living independent, fulfilled lives, the residents have been a great help to us as we learn and adapt our provision in order to serve them and other young people in the future in the most effective way.

Examples of what we have been able to offer so far are healthy meal planning and cooking sessions, planting and growing herbs, support and advice with budgeting and money management and support to access other provision in the community. Future plans include an art session and regular health walks. If you have skills in a particular area that you think would benefit our residents and some free time to volunteer, then we would love to hear from you!

ABP Southampton Half Marathon and 10K

Thank you to those who ran for Fledge in the ABP Southampton Half Marathon and 10K races. We raised over £800 and really appreciate your support.

Ways you can support Fledge:

Regular Giving

Fledge needs around £85,000 a year to run. The first few years, until we establish a good track record, are the hardest to raise.

40 people giving £25 a month would ensure the future of our Project Manager for 6 months.

6 churches donating £1,000 would cover the training and support of our mentors for a year

£11 provides one night's accomodation

Volunteer

Volunteers receive full training and expenses and have the opportunity to make a real difference to the life of a young person. We need Mentors, Fund-raisers, Trustees, Advocates, and Supported Lodgings Hosts.
